About AfterMint.us
Mint shut down January 1, 2024. Millions of users were forced to find alternatives — and many ended up with apps that cost more, worked worse, or had worse data integration. AfterMint exists to fix that information gap with rigorous, independently-tested reviews.
Why We Exist
When Intuit shut down Mint, they pushed users toward Credit Karma — but Credit Karma is a credit monitoring app, not a budgeting tool. The feature gap left ~3.6 million Mint users searching for true replacements. Most affiliate sites publish quick "best Mint alternatives" listicles without testing the apps. We do it differently:
- → Every reviewed app is tested with real bank account integration
- → We track Plaid connection reliability over weeks, not days
- → Categorization accuracy is measured against actual transaction data
- → Subscription pricing is verified monthly (apps change pricing often)
- → Customer service responsiveness is timed (real test cases)
Our Review Methodology
We connect each app to real bank accounts (Chase, Wells Fargo, Capital One, Ally) and test for 30+ days. We measure transaction sync delay, categorization accuracy (target: 85%+), missed transactions, and duplicate transactions.
Budget creation, goals tracking, investment monitoring, bill management, net worth tracking, recurring transaction detection, custom categorization, multi-user support. Each scored separately.
Subscription cost vs. features delivered. Apps charging $99+/year are evaluated against feature depth — premium pricing requires premium feature set. Free apps that compromise on data accuracy lose points.
Plaid vs. direct bank connection, data sharing policies, marketing data sale practices, two-factor authentication, data deletion procedures. Apps that sell user data score lower.
